Today I am very sad.

Believe it or not.

Don’t ask me to distract myself. Don’t ask me to think about something else. Don’t ask me to focus on the positive.

I am simply sad.

Deeply sad.

And this time, sadness arrived early, in the middle of the morning, while I was sitting at work.

Not in the loneliness of the night.

Not after a song.

Not after an Uber ride.

Here I am, in the middle of routine, and still it found me.

If I had to describe what is happening, I would say I have spent too many days in a row carrying very heavy things.

I have spent too much time trying to contain a sadness that, sometimes, simply needs to pass through me.

And yet, I keep functioning as if nothing were happening.

But there comes a moment when the mind stops arguing and simply becomes sad.

And if sadness has come to visit me today, then perhaps this is not the day to fight it.

Perhaps this is a day to acknowledge that I am sad, immensely sad.

And that is all.
